Suit up for Summer Blog Tour – DIY Swimwear
During difficult times, sewing is how I get through the anxiety and stress. So these past few weeks that is exactly what I have been doing. It has helped so much, so to get to be apart of Raspberry Creek Fabrics Blog Tour, Suit Up For Summer, it is just the sunshine I’ve needed. If you have been around for a while you know that I LOVE to sew swimsuits. Last year I did a month long series called Swimsuit Sewbration were I shared all my favorite tips, tricks, and ways I love to sew my swimsuits. So it was such a bright spot in this weird time that I was able to sew two new swimsuits using the gorgeous new swimsuit fabric from Raspberry Creek Fabrics.
For this week only, you can get 15% off Raspberry Creek Fabrics Swim Fabrics, so hurry and grab some of these gorgeous fabrics and let’s sew some more swimsuits together!
When I first saw this lemon fabric I knew I had to have it. I love anything yellow and this was the perfect nod towards that. Raspberry Creek Fabrics always has a wonderful selection of swim fabrics that launches each spring. I usually have such a hard time narrowing it down to what I want to make. This year it was still extremely hard to choose but these two fabrics I knew I had to have. After sewing with them I’m ready to get more of both fabrics so I can wear them even more! They are so beautiful and the perfect weight for swimsuits.
Since I am always coming up with new swimsuits to make, I keep a running list of patterns I want to use or want to create myself. For a while I’ve been wanting to make the Alexandria swimsuit from Made for Mermaids so I was extra excited to make that finally happen as they are one of the amazing tour sponsors. I love the number of options you can do with this suit, and I’ve even seen some fun hacks with it that I can’t wait to try! For this suit I chose to do the tie front with cross straps in the back and I love how it turned out.
For my second fabric I HAD to have this amazing colorful striped fabric. I will always say yellow is my favorite color BUT I really do love all colors, especially all together. This striped fabric is the perfect color combination and I seriously can’t wait to make more swimsuits with this fabric, it’s amazing and gorgeous! (I already convinced my sister she needs it too.)
I’ve been wanting to learn how to make a bra styled swimsuit top for a long time but it has been something I’ve put off learning. I thought this would be the perfect time to learn so I chose to make the Sophie Swimsuit from Closet Case Patterns, but as you can see by the pictures that top did not happen. I did however make the bottoms using this pattern and I love them!! I did make the top but it turned out way too small so I will be doing some recalculating. I was determined to make an amazing suit with this gorgeous fabric so I then made a Cottesloe Bikini top with a small added hack, a baby knot at the bottom. I love this top and will make it a million more times. It’s the perfect suit to hack and play around with. As for the bra styled top, I will definitely be trying it again!
I am so glad I got to be apart of the Suit Up for Summer Blog Tour by Raspberry Creek Fabrics. This really helped add some color and sunshine to my life during a very uncertain and dreary time. Make sure you check out all the other blogs in the tour to see the amazing fabrics and suits everyone made.
Happy Sewing Friends!
