Top 5 Places to Buy Swimsuit Fabric

Picking out fabric is one of my favorite things to do. I feel like shopping for fabric and sewing are two different hobbies. A perfect day would be shopping for fabric half the day and then sewing for the other half. It is just so fun to find prints and textures that you love and can imagine making beautiful things with! It’s like a treasure hunt!

When I first started making my own swimsuits I had such a hard time finding unique fabric that I LOVED. Most were very basic or too plain for me, you know I love color! Luckily, over the past few years smaller shops are really starting to embrace sewists making their own swimsuits and now carry an AMAZING selection of swim fabric. So I knew I had to do a post about my favorite places to buy swimsuit fabric!

• Raspberry Creek Fabrics — I love this company. They have really high quality fabrics and have the cutest custom prints that come out every season. This year they are selling their designs in swimsuit fabric and I LOVE IT! The fabric is soooo soft and beautiful! I’m already planning on getting more so I can make matching suits for my boys and I!

• Blackbird Fabrics — I just started ordering from this company last year but every time I do it is amazing. They carry high quality, beautiful fabric that I just can’t get enough of! They also just started selling swim fabric this year and it is STUNNING! So many beautiful colors and even textures! They have a ribbed knit in a few gorgeous colors and I am so tempted to buy some and make another suit with it.

• Joann Fabrics — For the past 7+ years I have gotten my lining fabric from Joann. They are three great options, white, nude, and black and when I can get it on sale it’s perfect! Usually I stock up when it is so I don’t run out when I do need it. I also like to look for matching solids here. They have an awesome selection and I like that I can go see it in person and see how it matches with another fabric.

• Fabric.com — The first swimsuit I ever made I got my fabric from fabric.com. They had the best selection I could find and it was really good quality fabric! Over the years they have continued to grow their selection and it had really been tempting to buy all the amazing options they offer. They really have everything you will need to make a swimsuit so it is a great one stop shop.

• Fashion Fabrics Club — Last year I found out about Fashion Fabrics Club and is was immediately sucked in by the HUGE selection of fabrics they have. They have SO MUCH! You really want to know what your looking for here, it is not the best to browse, unless you have a few hours to kill.

There are many other shops who sell amazing fabrics as well. I also love searching for swimwear at Spoonflower and Mood Fabrics. I love how you can even design your own print and have it printed at Spoonflower. Maybe someday I will be decisive enough to be able to make my own fabric! How fun would that be?
