How to Sew a Swimsuit — inserting the bra cups — Swimsuit Sewbration Sewalong Day 6
At this point you should have a fully lined swimsuit that has elastic every where except the front neckline. We left that open so that now you can try the suit on and place the bra cups exactly where you want them. Doing it this late in the swimsuit making process helps to make sure they are correctly placed and won’t end up in some weird position.
You first need to put the swimsuit on and then place the cups in between the lining and the fashion fabric of the suit. Place them exactly where you would like them to go. Now grab some safety pins and pin the cups in place. At this point I don’t worry about what layers I’m pinning through, I just make sure the bra cups stay in the place I want them to. I use safety pins so that I don’t stab myself and they won’t fall out when I take the suit off.
Now I take the suit off and adjust the pins or just replace them with regular pins. Make sure you don’t move the cups in the process. At this point I make sure that the pins are only going through the bra cup and the lining of the suit. Now I’m ready to sew the cups in place.
Make sure that the fashion fabric is pulled back so you don’t sew through it! You are only sewing through your lining and cups. I like to use a small zig zag stitch right around the edge of the bra cups. The lining will be on top and the bra cup will be on the bottom.
Stitch all around the outside of each cup. Then we need to cut away the lining from the bra cup. If you don’t do this it will flatten you boobs and look kinda silly. Once you have cut away the lining you are done putting the cups in! Lastly you need to put the elastic in the neckline and finish it off! You can see those instructions in my last blog post!
