Swimsuit Sewbration

Swimsuit Sewbration Maker Highlight

We are down to the final days of the Swimsuit Sewbration and I have had so much fun sharing all of my tips and seeing so much swimsuit inspiration from everyone! I hope if you make a swimsuit or follow along with my Sewalong you will tag me and #swimsuitsewbration so I can see all the beautiful creations!

As a final hurrah before the official first day of summer I wanted to highlight a few more of my favorite sewists and their swimsuits. There are so many amazing people out their creating and I just want to share them all! Unfortunately that would get verrrry long. So I narrowed it down a little.

First I want to share Kara from the blog Kara Mette. She does amazing refashions and can make anything look amazing! This is what she had to say about making and refashion her suits.

“True to my refashion style, the first swimsuit I made was a refashion.  I had a bandeau one piece that wasn’t quite long enough for my tall torso.  I cut through the waist to create high-waisted bottoms, then designed my own top that was inspired by a swimsuit I had seen in real life.  I love how the back laces up and ties because it makes the fit more accommodating.  It can be tied in the front or the back, and the straps can be worn bunched, or stretched out to cover the shoulder.  The top and bottom are sewed together to create a one piece.

The next time I made a swimsuit, it was my first time making swim bottoms.  The elastic around the thighs were so hard for me!  I ended up buying a walking foot and a rolling foot to prevent puckering.  The rolling foot ended up being a lifesaver, along with a Youtube tutorial from Mimi G where she sews a swimsuit using Michael Levine Fabric.

For my most recent swimsuit, I used the Cricut Maker to cut the fabric for me.  It took a few alterations, because the original Cricut Design Space pattern wasn’t meant for a knit top, but I love how it turned out!”

Aren’t these all amazing! I love all the different styles and variations that she has done and that she used a Cricut to cut one out! How FUN!

Next I am so excited to share Brittany Jones of the blog Brittany J Jones. She always makes the most gorgeous outfits and I love when she makes matching outfits for her and her daughter, SO STINKEN CUTE! She just made her first swimsuit and it turned out so amazing! Here is what she had to say about making her first suit,

“I absolutely loved making my first swimsuit! Going into the project, I was a little nervous about how the outcome would be because I’d told myself it would be a challenge, but I was wrong! It was so easy to do and the Megan Neislen Cottesloe Curve pattern was the perfect beginner suit for me! I’m looking forward to making my own swimsuit every year!”

SHE IS STUNNING! And I looove her fabric choice! Brittany, you did an amazing job on your first swimsuit! And honestly I can’t even believe it was your first! So good!

Last but not certainly not least I want to share Sara from The Sara Project. I feel like every time Sara shares a new project I immediately want to go out and make the EXACT SAME THING! She has a great eye for design and her fabric choice is always so amazing! Which is exactly how I felt when I saw her swimsuit. Sara shared these thoughts about it,

“Megan Nielsen recently launched her newest sewing pattern and asked me if I would be willing to review it. My instant reaction was YES. I had never sewn a swimsuit before and I really loved the design of the Cottesloe Swimsuit. I actually have been in hot pursuit of a new swimsuit for this season but haven’t really found anything I loved. I need something that’s modest (for chasing three kids around), comfortable but also cute!! THIS IS IT. I’m so surprised HOW EASY it was to sew a swimsuit. Custom made swimwear fits so much better than ready to wear and there are so many great swimsuit patterns out there right now.

I could not have said it better than Sara did! That is exactly why I wanted to do this Sewbration! I want to empower women to know they can make clothing, but this month especially swimsuits, that fit their life and body perfectly!

Thank you so much for sharing ladies! I have loved following along on their makes through instagram. Make sure you check them all out because each one of them are always doing amazing things!

Happy Sewing Friends!
