DIY Fabric Christmas Ornaments

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

Years ago I collected fabric to make a colorful Christmas quilt. I spent so much time matching the colors and making sure it would look just right. I kept the colors close to the traditional Christmas colors but brighter, more me. I had so much fun planning everything out but once Christmas was over and the hype was gone I never worked on it. And to this day it still is a stack in my sewing room. So this week I wanted to give those fabrics a chance to shine. They deserve their own moment but I needed something a little more realistic for me. I’ve been itching to make some type of ornament and was struck with inspiration at Joann’s one day.

They have the cutest wood cut outs for you to craft with, I stood staring at them for a while trying to come up with how I could use them. The wood ornament shape jumped out at me and I knew I could make the easiest and cutest ornaments with my fun fabrics.

I started by cutting out a circle that was slightly smaller than my wood ornament, with the Cricut Explore Air 2. To get the perfect cut I backed the fabric with Heat n Bond, put my settings on bonded fabric, and it cut beautifully! Cutting a circle by hand can be more than challenging so it was such a relief to have the machine cut it in a matter of seconds.

The other nice thing about applying the heat n bond is that once I had the circle cut out I used the Cricut EasyPress 2 and bonded the circle to the wood ornament. For a more clean look I could have stopped there but I wanted to add one more fun touch to the project.

On Cricut Design I found some cute designs of a snowflake, reindeer, and a present so I edited them to fit within the circle and then cut them out of the prettiest silver glitter vinyl. I used the EasyPress 2 to bond the vinyl to the top of the ornament which gave it the perfect touch of Christmas Magic. I finished off the ornament by fraying the edges of the fabric to get some texture and changing out the twine for Christmas ribbon.

I love how simple this project was but how big of an impact it has. It adds so much color and personality to my otherwise generic Christmas tree. And it helps that these ornaments are a lot harder for my kids to break. 😉 Learn exactly how to make these ornaments by watching the video below.
