Swimsuit Sewbration Maker Highlight
When I first thought about having a celebration on all things swimwear, I knew I wanted to do more than just show you how to make the perfect swimsuit. “Perfect” is different for everyone and everyone’s style and size is different. Which is why I knew I had to include other amazing makers in the Swimsuit Sewbration!
Today I am so excited to share with you Cassie from Lily Shine Creates. She has the most beautiful creations and often makes for her and her adorable daughters! I’m pretty sure every time she posts something, I want to recreate it because it is that good! And the same goes for this incredible swimsuit she made! You can check out her full blogpost on her suit here.
Isn’t Cassie gorgeous? And this swimsuit is amazing. I love the fabric she chose. I have one very similar coming up and I can’t wait to show you guys. I am obsessed with the back detailing and now I really want to make a suit that has that same detail!
I asked Cassie to share her thoughts on making her own suit and this is what she said,
“My first attempt to sew my own swimsuit was last summer right before the 4th of July. I purchased the Indigo Ruche from Swim Style and it was a great pattern to start with! As much as I love my me-made swimwear, I just can’t seem to get bottoms figured out for my body shape and measurements so I use store-bought bottoms. I love swim fabric from Spoonflower (it’s thicker and easier to sew with), Raspberry Creek Fabrics (the fabric is matte and not shiny like some swim knit) and the Fabric Fairy (the variety of in-stock fabrics is awesome!)
A few must have gadgets and gizmos for sewing swimsuits: clips instead of pins, pattern weights to keep the fabric from shifting, a rotary cutter instead of scissors, and the soft swim elastic from Dritz.
Fabric is from from Pine Crest Fabrics ordered from Fabric.com I followed the hack on the M4M blog for the Naomi pattern from Made for Mermaids for the top. The bottoms are store-bought.”
So inspiring! I love that she knows it is easier for her to purchase the bottoms than to try and figure out how to alter the pattern. Sometimes it is just better for our sanity to purchase RTW items. Thank you so much for sharing Cassie! Now I know I definitely need to try out some Spoonflower fabric and that hack from Made for Mermaids! Make sure you go check Cassie out on instagram and her blog.
Happy sewing friends!
